Also included in the declaration was the starting up of an integrated five years M.Pharma course. Apparao emphasized the improvements the pharmacy colleges must make in their managements and infrastructure.

Prof T Satya Prasad, Director of Evaluation,requested the colleges to reveal the actual experience of their respective staff members so that proper evaluation must be made and steps taken accordingly as many colleges had previously `misinformed ‘the university that led to a lot of confusion.

If you are a student who struggles hard to remember texts or write answers, but quite good in extracurricular activities or perhaps sports such as basketball or football, then there is, apparently, no need to worry much about passing the frightening annual exams. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is planning to give pass grades to the weaker students of a class on the basis of other skills.

Several changes are to be made. For example, students getting low marks in written examinations, will be awarded grades on the basis of oral tests. The basic idea underlying is to examine a student to access his understanding of the important concepts in the syllabus.  In fact, after cancelling Class X Board exams from next year hence, CBSE has also requested schools to show the progress charts and answer sheets to students of Classes IX and XI individually and engage themselves actively with CBSE’s plannings.

Thus Classes IX and X will be divided as First and Second Terms. Students will be given only one report card containing both records of  Classes IX and X and will be shown answer sheets. They will be graded on extracurricular activities, sports, physical fitness, attitudes and life skills. Students will have to list goals, strengths, hobbies and interests, sports played and exceptional achievements as part of their report card.

The Indira Gandhi Open University is set to start two more courses, that is designing apparel, garments and fashion which are focussed on mainly hand-skills. Signing a memorandum of understanding with the University, Chairman Rakesh Vaid of Apparel Export Promotion Council claimed the courses sub-categorized in certificates, diploma and degree programmes(currently only for the Undergraduate level ) will incorporate “industry specific training programmes”. He also added that emphasis will be given to garmenting as not many universities offer the same. ” Our curriculum would also improve with the varsity’s help,” Vaid added.

If the value based CBSE curriculum was not enough, the board has decided to examine students on the basis of their interaction with the general world(read fellow students and teachers), an issue that has raised eyebrows nationwide.

While many have nodded their heads in support of the new gradation system citing examples of morality incorporation among youngsters as one of the main reasons behind such a decision, others have simply dismissed the whole theory stating that it may affect the general academic standards and performance of the students.

Expressing their reservations over the controversial matter, some principals have however, relented to the new grading rule. This gives teachers who themselves have attitude problems, ample opportunity, perhaps, to manipulate students.
