Trying to dispel fears of death figures rising, PR officer Bhupendra Dhillon to DRM assured the media that rescue work “is progressing at a fast pace and the situation should normalise within a few hours.”
Despite repeated assurances, reports continued to flood in of delayed response from the involved authorities. Saurabh Jain, one of the passengers, retorted: “We could feel electric shocks coming from compartments at the rear of the train. But the authorities reacted very late.”
Although the accident took place 5:00 a.m., none of the policemen, allegedly reached the site till 6 a.m. The Mewar Express finally reached the Nizamuddin station in New Delhi at 1.50 p.mas opposed to its earlier schedule, that is, 6.30 a.m.
