Stressing the importance of a holistic approach towards curbing Maoist violence across the affected states of India, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today stated the need of the hour to “maintain and enforce law and order. Law and order is a precondition for any sustained social and economic development.”
In a tone slightly different from the very rigid one of Home Minister P. Chidambaram that had so far sparked counter action on the part of the separatists, the prime minister said he could “recognise that in certain areas, particularly in areas where the tribal population is in large (numbers), there is alienation.”
He emphasized the need to practice novel methods aimed at economic development of the deprived tribals. He ended the discussion assuring India that “the government of India is duty bound to deal with it in an effective manner.”
